The Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis, reiterated Friday in Madrid he hopes to reach an agreement to unblock the refinancing of its debt by the end of May.
“The meeting Monday (the Eurogroup) is a step in the right direction to solve the crisis, “he said, adding that he expects progress favoring an agreement to replace the program which expires in June. “(…) So that gives enough hope that we will be able to announce the process that leads to the end of the discussions,” he said.
Varoufakis was speaking in Madrid after a meeting with his Spanish counterpart, Luis de Guindos, at the end of which he said in remarks to journalists “harmony” and “mutual interest” between the two countries to resolve the crisis.
On Monday, finance ministers of the Eurozone meet although most officials do not believe it is possible to reach an agreement on the basis of reform proposals in the country in exchange for a refinancing.
Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tripras he was optimistic the same Friday on a “soon” according to receive further financial support.
“I hope that soon we will have a happy ending and that despite the difficulties (…) we will carry out the agreement to be sealed soon in Europe, “Tsipras told the Greek Parliament.
