European leaders gave a new ultimatum to Greece – La Voz del Interior

Brussels. Frustrated and angry eurozone leaders gave yesterday to the Greek prime minister, Alexis Tsipras, a final opportunity to present a concrete and feasible proposal to save her country from financial ruin.

After passing his surprise to see that no Tsipras yesterday presented a detailed plan, European leaders agreed reluctantly to hold a summit last Sunday, as this would give both parties an opportunity to avoid the collapse of the nation helena challenging.

Emphasizing the gravity of the challenge, the president of the European Union (EU), Donald Tusk, decided to convene the 28 EU leaders in Brussels and not only the leaders of the 19 eurozone members. “It may be the most critical time in our history,” Tusk justified.

The French president, Francois Hollande, agreed with the view of Tusk. “This is not just a problem of Greece, is the future of the EU,” he said.

And to highlight the growing discomfort with Tsipras, President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, had a serious warning to Greece. “We have a hypothetical case Grexit prepared to detail,” referring to the situation in Greece had to leave the single currency

Frustration

Just days that banks in Greece fall into paralysis that could steer away from the euro, Tsipras came to the meeting only vague proposals and commitment to support them tomorrow with numbers real and a more detailed plan.

“We’ll see if Sunday this matter is resolved once and for all,” said Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi.

Tsipras came backed victory in Sunday’s referendum in which the majority of Greeks supported his call to reject austerity reforms that creditors had proposed.

But this national victory did not seem to give much advantage in the talks with foreign creditors, who know that Tsipras need to reach an early agreement to keep the country afloat. Banks are closed since last week and did not reopen until Thursday, cash withdrawals have been limited during the same period and daily economic activities were virtually paralyzed throughout the country.

A federal official Greek, who asked not to be named because of the sensitivity of the discussions, he said that Athens will present a request for advance funding of five billion euros in loans to be paid by the end of the month. He predicted that a full political agreement could be achieved in two or three weeks.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel warned that Tsipras walking on a tightrope. “We’re not talking weeks, but very few days,” he said.

The new Greek finance minister, Euclid Tsakalotos, only made an oral presentation yesterday and discussed key issues.

Tsakalotos left the summit in the afternoon and told reporters: “My impression is that we have a green light to reach an agreement soon.” Quite different from the other European leaders reading.
