Foreign tourists spent in Spain up 7.4% in the first quarter – Ultimahora.com

Foreign tourists spent in Spain in the first quarter 12,253 million euros (14,000 million dollars), 7.4% more than in the same period of 2015, according to the survey released today by the National Institute of Statistics ( INE).

in March alone, the expenditure was 4.838 million euros, 10% more than in the same month of 2015.

United Kingdom and Germany were the main countries in the level of spending in March, 20.5% and 15.7%, respectively.

on March last year, spending by resident tourists in the UK increased by 26.8% and Germany, 9.4%.

the region increased spending was concentrated Canary Islands (Atlantic) , with 30.7% of the total, followed by Catalonia (northeast), with 19.1%; and Andalusia (south) received 15.1%.

Tourism is one of the main sources of income for the Spanish economy and accounts for over 11% of GDP, according to INE.
