Takata will carry out meaningful reforms and will be in a period of conditional test for three years under the supervision of an independent monitor, according to Reuters.
This Friday, were also indicted three exejecutivos of the manufacturer nippon as a result of an investigation of the company, according to court documents published this Friday.
Shinichi Tanaka, Hideo Nakajima and Tsuneo Chikaraishi are accused of “conspiracy” for attempting to conceal the serious defects of the airbags that have been used on a large scale by many manufacturers, both u.s. and foreign, according to the indictment dated in December and released this Friday.
The removal of air bags from Takata, which started in 2008 and could be completed until 2023, will affect 42 million cars in the US and is the largest in history.
Takata, which manufactures both air bags like seat belts, controls 20% of the global market. After publicize the fine, the shares of the firm climbed 16.5% in the market of Japan, indicates Reuters.
