Earthquake shakes central 5 degrees Spain – El Nuevo Herald

An earthquake measuring 5 degrees on Monday shook central Spain without damage were reported immediately.

According to the US Geological Survey (USGS, for its acronym in English), the epicenter took place in the town of Ossa de Montiel, 220km southeast of Madrid, and was felt in the capital and the center of the Iberian Peninsula.

Some employees briefly took to the streets frightened in Madrid . The quake struck at 1616 GMT but only lasted a few seconds. No injuries or damage in Ossa de Montiel, a town of 2,600 inhabitants.

Spain is a country of low seismic activity and the movements do not usually exceed five magnitude were reported. An earthquake of 5.1 degrees left nine dead and 300 wounded in Lorca, southeastern Peru, in 2011.
