They eliminate tariffs on technology – elPeriódico (Guatemala)

The World Trade Organization (WTO) agreed to extend the Agreement on Information Technology (ITA) bringing the tariffs will be eliminated about 200 technology products, including tablets, GPS devices

According Roberto Azevêdo, director general of the WTO, trade in products of information technology and communications (ICT), equivalent to US $ 1.3 billion year and accounts for seven percent of trade in goods worldwide.

This is the first customs agreement which achieves the WTO for 18 years, said Azevêdo. Terms of the agreement include eliminating most customs duties for these products within three years from 2016.

The Ministry of Economy (Mineco) indicated that Guatemala is one of 25 countries They form part of the agreement to eliminate tariffs on products as components of televisions, computers, radios, apparatus for use of the Internet, touch screens, navigation devices GPS, among others.

Abelardo Medina, former head of planning the Superintendency of Tax Administration (SAT) said that most technology products enter the country duty free. Thus the fiscal impact would be enough, he said.
