US pressure on Greece to present reform plan – ABC Color

WASHINGTON. The US Treasury Secretary, Jack Lew, said there is an “urgent need” for Greece to “take the lead” in negotiations with international creditors and provide a “detailed” international rescue plan.

“No time to waste, efforts must be redoubled,” Lew said in a press conference on Friday in connection with the spring meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, in which the Greek crisis has become the main source of concern.

The US Treasury Secretary today held meetings with the President of the Eurogroup Jeroen Dijsselbloem and Minister Greek Finance Yanis Varoufakis to it address the issue.

“During my meetings, I made clear that the first hit by the crisis would be Greece and the Greek people,” he said.

United States has increased pressure on Athens to provide a detailed list of structural reforms to give the necessary confidence to its international creditors, which include the European Commission (EC), the European Central Bank (ECB) and the IMF.

In line with US President Barack Obama, was expressed by stating that Athens must “initiate reforms” structural and reduce bureaucracy to show your creditors that you are taking “tough decisions”.

Greece is negotiating with these institutions, previously known as the “troika”, a set of structural reforms the country must apply to receive 7,200 million remaining outstanding of the second bailout.
