The Greek Finance Minister, Yanis Varufakis, has recognized that there is a clear animosity of his colleagues Eurogroup to him and in his personal twitter account wrote today that gives “welcome their hatred.”
“They are unanimous in their hate for me. And I welcome their hatred,” wrote the paraphrasing of US President Franklin D. Roosevelt during a speech in 1936 in New York Minister, during the presidential election campaign.
Roosevelt responded well to that during the Great Depression that began in the US in 1929 and continued during the decade of the thirties had put their personal gain above welfare.
As described various means ministers who participated in the Eurogroup of Riga, Latvia, on Friday, the atmosphere was extremely ill and pressure towards Varufakis.
While some ministers as Spanish, Luis de Guindos, were unanimous in their criticism of the lack of progress in negotiations with Greece, Varufakis chose to give a more optimistic view of the situation.
At the conference after the Eurogroup press, Varufakis confirmed that “differences” between Athens and its creditors persist but stressed the convergence achieved in recent weeks.
“We watched the last few weeks and what we see is convergence. We have a complete convergence but we are confident that we can have it,” said Varufakis.
The main obstacles remain negative Athens to liberalize the dismissal and lower pensions, and to allow mortgage foreclosures.
These three points are part of the catalog demanded by creditors in the second bailout program, which the previous government of conservative Andonis Samaras also refused to apply, leading to deadlock in negotiations since from Athens last August has failed disbursement of 72,000 million euros outstanding.
