Greece privatize 14 airports as part of the agreement for a third bailout – The Nation Costa Rica

The Greek government approved the grant of 14 regional airports to the German consortium Fraport-Slentel by 1,230 million euros, according to a decree published Tuesday in the Official Gazette.

The privatization of airports form part of the agreement with the country’s creditors, adopted on August 14 by Parliament Greek.

Creditors require the establishment of a privatization fund 50,000 million euros as ports, airports and railways mainly-that will be managed by Athens but supervised by international institutions.

The transfer of airport management to the German company for a period of 40-50 years, who had received the approval of the previous government, was put on hold after the election in January last Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras left.

The airports concerned are located in tourist cities like Thessaloniki, Corfu, Rhodes, Kos and Santorini.
