Greek parliament approves third rescue program – Televisa News

ATHENS, Greece, Aug. 14, 2015.- The Greek parliament today approved with a large majority, the law on the third bailout agreed with the creditor institutions during a marathon session that dissent within the ruling Syriza were evident again.

The approval of the rescue went ahead with 222 votes in favor, 64 against, 11 abstentions and three absences in a chamber with 300 deputies.

The number of parliamentarians from Syriza who denied their support to the rescue increased respect the final vote on the measures required by the rescue and up to 43 of them turned their backs to the agreement.

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras defended the agreement third bailout of the country as a “forced choice” of the government, that after “exhausting all avenues of negotiation” had to choose between an aid program with the euro or the drachma as its currency.
