Manu Ayerdi “Every mining project is different” – EnergyPress

Vice President of Economic Development, Manu Ayerdi, said that, in the mining industry, is necessary to address the public interest against the particular demands, as “industrial and economic development of a territory necessarily requires access to raw materials “.

After ensuring that each mining project is different, in terms of public support in the area where it is located, has argued that the conditions for the supply of a nonrenewable resource are made from “reason and rationality” and from dialogue to achieve broad consensus of social and economic actors.

Ayerdi has taken these considerations in Baluarte at the close of the day “Compatibility extractive industry and Natura 2000″ organized by entities in the mining sector with the collaboration of the Confederation of Employers of Navarra, the Government of Navarra and the Ministry Industry, Energy and Tourism.

In the event that the understanding is not possible, the vice president stressed that it is the law that invalidates the various competing interests and, in this sense, has stated that the legislation emanating from European directives on biodiversity is “very garantista and demanding “to ensure adequate environmental protection.

“It is a legal body that gives us confidence. It is all projects, in processing, follow the established channels so that it generates legal certainty between promoters and other stakeholders,” he explained.

In Navarre there are 75 mines, which represent 381 direct jobs (Social Security affiliation 2015). It is a sector that has been severely affected by the crisis in the construction and in fact, as explained Ayerdi, in some there is no activity for lack of orders.

In ten years, the production of mines Navarre has spent more than 16.6 million tons to about 7 million. However, the production of magnesite, which is not related to the construction industry, increases and goes from 1.6 million tons in 2004 to nearly 3 million in 2014 and represents almost half of the Navarre mining production.

Ayerdi has highlighted the importance of the sector for the economic development of Navarra, as manufacturing and construction industry depend heavily on the non-energy extraction to stock up on essential raw materials.

He said that this sector is strategic for the society of European welfare: “If the per capita GDP compared as an indicator of welfare and economic development, with consumption of rocks and minerals per capita, shows that there is a positive correlation between the two variables . the industrial and economic development necessarily involves access to raw materials “.
