Slim is the reference shareholder of CaixaBank – Forbes Mexico

Grupo Financiero Inbursa, owned by the magnate mexicano Carlos Slim, bought shares for about 100 million euros (about 112 million dollars) in a placement of the Spanish bank Caixabank, which aims to strengthen its capital before an acquisition of securities of the lender, Portuguese Bank of Investment (BPI).

according To Reuters, citing a source close to the transaction, the acquisition was close to a 0.76% of the share capital of Caixabank, which is in addition to other purchases to Slim on Spain, which is the majority shareholder of the construction company FCC and the real estate company Realia through Investment Carso.

Caixabank sold on Thursday, shares representing 9.9% of its equity to institutional investors for a total of 1,322 million euros.

The Catalan bank entered in the register of shareholders of Inbursa in 2008, coming to have the 20%. This percentage has been reduced to 9% and last year he was traded to the Criteria.

Meanwhile, the Spanish site The Economist pointed out that the insurance company Mutua Madrileña will control the other 2.13% and will leverage its alliance with the entity to enter Portugal,

The Caixabank shares fell 3.7% 2,259 euros, in line with the 2.26 euros at which the operation was executed.
