The growth of world manufacturing sector slowed slightly in March, as factories made only modest cuts in prices, showed on Wednesday a business survey.

The Global Index Purchasing Managers Manufacturing (PMI), developed in conjunction with Markit, fell to 51.8 in March from a four-month high of 51.9 in February.

March represented the twenty-eighth consecutive month that the index remained above the mark 50 which separates the growth and contraction. A sub-index measuring output prices rose to just below that level, to 49.7.

“The March PMI survey suggests that the global manufacturing sector continues to make steady progress, with the pace of expansion in production and new orders remained near solid rates seen in recent months, “said David Hensley, director of JPMorgan.

The PMI combines survey data from countries like the US, Japan, Germany, France, Britain, China and Russia.
