France could prosecute the collection of 1,600 million euros in back taxes from Google (actually, Alphabet, the conglomerate that the search became), and until now could prevent from intensive techniques tax optimization.

According to a ministry source French finance inormó on condition of anonymity told Reuters, “in regard to our country, back taxes this company reaches the amount 1,600 million euros. ”

Meanwhile, the spokesman for the US technology giant in France declined to comment to the news agency, saying only that the company always complied with tax rules in all countries where it operates.

According to consultants, usually the French tax authority does in these cases at least a preliminary assessment of the levy to be imposed, before making the final, which in any case can be appealed in court if it is not accepted.

While the information on the amount is not yet official, as the French finance minister also declined to comment, the amount is ten times greater than the agreement the same concept as Alphabet reached in early February with the British government, which came to 164 million euros in back taxes from 2005 to date, the firm agreed to pay.

the measures come after complaints that both countries argue for years about the way that Google, Yahoo! and otas digital companies generate huge profits in their countries but have tax domicile in places like Ireland, where corporate taxes are much lower. So far, none of these presentations had legally prospered because the European Union has rules that exempt companies pay taxes in a country that has not established a “permanent residence”.
