The IMF renews its confidence in Lagarde despite his conviction in the Case “Tapie” – euronews

The former minister of Economy has not attended to the reading of the judgment in the case of arbitration Tapie in 2008. The Court of Justice of the Republic does not apply and no penalty despite having been declared guilty in the diversion of public funds in one of the political scandals of the presidency of Sarkozy. A verdict-contradictory, that could have consequences to his career at the front of the IMF.

In 2007, the head of the ministry of Finance, Lagarde allowed a private arbitration to respond to the request, multi-million dollar businessman Bernard Tapie, a faithful ally and a personal friend of Sarkozy. The fact that Lagarde opted for a accordance with private rose reviews on the services of his own ministry, and incurring the opposition of the judges to which he ignored.

"We are concerned because we ask the absolution as well that we’re not going to say that the judgment is good for us. But let’s put things in its site, because you have to remember that mrs Lagarde has been relieved of all pain," said the lawyer of the director of the IMF, Patrick Maisonneuve.

The French government has reacted by ensuring that it maintains all its confidence in Lagarde as the court decision refers to "facts prior to his appointment to the head of the IMF", when she was named minister of Economy by Sarkozy in 2007.

The IMF, an institution that Lagarde is the director, has said in a press release that completely renewed his trust in her, despite the condemnation in France.
