ECLAC recorded brake poverty reduction – El Universal (Venezuela)

The poverty rate increased 6.7 percentage points between 2012 and 2013 and the poverty rate by 2.7 percentage points, yesterday said the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), based on figures National Institute of Statistics (INE).

According to the Social Panorama of Latin America 2014 report, in one year the poverty rate in the country increased from 25.4% to 32.1%, above the average for Latin America (28.1%). While extreme poverty climbed from 7.1% to 9.8%, below the regional context (11.7%).

Overall, ECLAC reported that the reduction of poverty It stalled in Latin America as a result of lower regional growth. The agency counted 165 million people in poverty, of which 69 million are in extreme poverty.

“The recovery of the global financial crisis seems to have been exploited enough to strengthening social protection policies,” said Executive Secretary of ECLAC, Alicia Barcena, DPA said.
