The Greek parliament on Friday approved the law by a large majority on the third bailout agreed with the creditor institutions s during a marathon session that the disagreements were evident again in the ruling Syriza.
The approval of the rescue went ahead with 222 votes in favor, 64 against, 11 abstentions and 3 absent in a chamber with 300 deputies.
The number of MPs that Syriza denied their support to the rescue was increased compared to the last vote on the measures required by the rescue and up to 43 of them turned their backs to the agreement.
The low Executive and the “psychological threshold” 120 deputies vote in favor it had set as a sustainable figure to continue to maintain stability in Parliament.
This will trigger, according to local press, the call for a confidence vote to be held after the Rescue first disbursement, scheduled for the 20th day, when Greece must return 3,400 million euros to the European Central Bank.
On 23 July were 36 leftist parliamentarians who voted against or abstained.
The voting, which started very late due to differences over the parliamentary process was marked by dissent within Syriza which led to a heated debate in which several Government members harsh attacks with President of the Chamber, Zoe Konstandopulu.
She was one of the outstanding personality, which together with the former Minister of Finance Yanis Varoufakis, voted against the agreement were exchanged.
Finally the parliamentary session came a few hours before the informal meeting of Ministers of Economy and Finance of the euro, scheduled for 13:00 GMT, who must decide whether to grant rescue the country takes place.
Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, defended the deal for the third bailout of the country as a “forced choice” of the Government, that after “exhausting all avenues of negotiation” had to choose between an aid program with the euro or the drachma as its currency.
“Given an ultimatum to the temporary exit of Greece from the eurozone, we take responsibility towards the Greek people to stay alive and continue the fight instead of choosing suicide (leaving the euro), “Tsipras said in his speech that preceded the start of voting.
