intransigence Schäuble defended
Angela Merkel
The German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, was in favor of improving the conditions of financial credit to Greece, but returned to reject a possible reduction of debt.
The German president said that there is still “room” with regard to interest rates and repayment periods, during the traditional summer meeting of the second German public broadcaster ZDF.
Also, Merkel came out in defense of his German Finance Minister, Wolfgang Sch TM uble , and made clear that the fact that it has achieved a deal at the last minute with Greece is something that we must also thank Sch TM uble.
German Chancellor said he had been in “constant contact” with him the last night of negotiations in Brussels within the Eurogroup, he said.
As to whether the heavy hand of Germany has damaged Germany’s image abroad, Merkel only replied that they have “a lot, a lot of support”, for example, Ireland and Portugal.
The German Parliament will vote Wednesday at a special meeting on third rescue package for Greece. In addition to Germany, other national parliaments must ratify the new aid to the Greek government for commissioning after receiving the green light from the finance ministers of the euro area on Friday.
So far, Germany emphasized the need for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to participate in the new aid. Merkel said she was convinced today that it will. “The IMF has he participated in the negotiations. He supports” he said.
The Managing Director of IMF, Christine Lagarde , said they would participate in the third bailout if the conditions for it are met. “I have no doubt that what Mrs. Lagarde said will also become reality.”
Lagarde raised as conditions together with the credit of 86,000 million euros in the third package to the Greek government pushing forward a reform of the detailed and full pensions as well as more support for Greece agreed to ease debt
