Former president of VW will be investigated for suspicion of fraud – Deutsche Welle

The former chairman of German carmaker Volkswagen Martin Winterkorn will be investigated for suspicion of fraud in the context of the scandal of the handling of diesel engines, today announced that the office of the Prosecutor of the germans.

The Prosecutor’s office in Braunschweig (central Germany) announced Friday (27.01.2017) which investigates now it also for an alleged offence of fraud, the former president of the group car Volkswagen Martin Winterkorn in relation to the scandal of the manipulation of emissions.

The exdirectivo was being until now investigated for alleged market manipulation, to the suspicion that withheld information about the fraud of the emissions for this to not affect negatively to the actions of the group.

The prosecutor’s office reported that the number of people under investigation for the scandal of the emissions of the VW has been raised from the 21 known up to 37.

last week Winterkorn denied before a parliamentary committee
have been aware of the fraud before they broke out the scandal
in September of 2015.
