Market operators betting on first rise in US rates … – Reuters


       

(Reuters) – The future of interest rates on short-term US rose on Wednesday, delaying expectations for a first rate hike by the Federal Reserve , although the Fed opened the door to a monetary tightening even after June.


       

The contracts now show that traders see a 67 percent chance for a first interest rate hike in October, based on CME Fedwatch, following the expectations of rate hikes using futures contracts federal funds rate.


       

Before the Fed issued the statement after meeting, traders bet that rates would rise for the first time in September.


       

The Fed has kept its short-term rates near zero since December 2008.
