Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras met with his negotiating team in Athens and talk on the phone with the head of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, to try to end the deadlock before Monday’s emergency summit, said Reuters.
The government urgently needs cash to secure an agreement in exchange for reforms to prevent a default of 1,600 million euros with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) end of June, which could eventually leave him out of the Eurozone.
With nervous savers withdrawing billions of euros of Greek banks, Athens might have to impose capital controls in a few days to prevent leakage deposit.
“We will try to complement our proposal for us to come to a solution,” said Minister of State Alekos Flabouraris. “We will not go with the old proposal. We are working for … we get a solution that benefits us” at all, he said.
