Barcelona, June 19 ( EFE ) .- The vice president of Corporate Development at Google, David Drummond, today expressed hope that the talks the US multinational has with publishers and Spanish authorities lead to the reopening in Spain the news aggregation service Google News, closed last December.
In a speech to the Forum Global Editors Network ( GEN ) closed today in the Catalan capital, Drummond admitted that the closure of Google News in Spain was “one of the saddest decisions” that had to be taken as responsible for the company.
“The approach of ‘all or nothing’ of the (new) intellectual property law took us to close Google News here. We lost each other; was one of the saddest decisions I’ve had to take on Google, “said the manager.
” But we have not thrown in the towel. We continue to talk with publishing groups and the government, and hope we can return to reopen in the future, “added Drummond.
The head of Google took stock of the initiative ID (Digital News Initiative), launched in April with the Californian company intends to finance innovative projects in the media.
