In a strong speech to Parliament
The Greek premier, Alexis Tsipras.
Prime Minister of Greece, Alexis Tsipras, cataloged on Friday as “absurd” a set of reform proposals made by creditors his country can not accept and said he expects reconsider.
In a strong speech to the Greek parliament, Tsipras said that a proposal made by Athens earlier this week was the only basis realistic for an agreement with the debtor.
“The proposals submitted by the lenders are unrealistic hope reconsider” Tsipras said. “The Greek government can not consent to the absurd proposals.”
Tsipras said he would not accept any agreement with international lenders excluding the promise of a debt restructuring, something his Government sued throughout the negotiation process.
Creditors of the eurozone and the IMF have resisted the efforts of Greece to include a debt relief negotiations with which it seeks to unlock aid for Athens.
However, he said that Greece is closer than ever to an agreement, given that the proposed Athens is not indifferent to the needs of creditors.
Tsipras also said he will not accept a new rescue after the expiry of the current, in late June
