The Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varufakis, said in an interview with the German newspaper “Bild” that the rescue of Greece has to start again from zero and Europe has to start by admitting that he has done so far has been wrong.
“We are all human and it is difficult to admit mistakes. I think it will take time for institutions European, Berlin and Brussels recognize that the program has supported for five years was a mistake, but there is no other way, “Varufakis said.
In the interview, Varufakis insists that its approach Greece needs to link payment of the debt to its economic growth , plus a rebate on the debt.
“ If we raise more money we can pay higher fees . But we also need an extension of the deadlines, “he said.
Varufakis referred to the debt of seven billion euros to the European Central Bank (ECB) which expires in the summer and not have the capital to pay that money.
“ We then turn again to the German taxpayers to lend us money and can pay the ECB ?. That makes no sense. It is better to defer payment “
