Spanish economy minister expected to visit Cuba soon – Radio Havana Cuba

Havana, July 4 (RHC). Minister of Economy of Spain, Luis de Guindos, is scheduled to visit Cuba in the month of July to boost economic relations between the two countries, according to diplomatic and business sources in the Iberian country. Guindos address issues such as the presence of Spanish companies in Cuba and trade relations between the two countries.

The tour de Guindos will occur at a time of expectation on Cuba by improving relations with the United States, They have encouraged hopes for changes to attract more foreign investment to the island and promote economic development. Some Spanish businessmen present in Cuba looked forward to the opportunity to develop new initiatives.

Power Economy admit that opens a great opportunity in Cuba and concerning the visit scheduled for July, noted that no a specific date yet set.

Spain’s ambassador in Cuba, Francisco Montalban, notes that Spain is the third largest trading partner of Cuba, only behind Venezuela and China, whose trade have a very high public component so that would be the first partner for private activity. In addition, exports are growing strongly. Cuba already have activity in 230 Spanish companies, which have the only business association of foreign companies on the island.

Along with the presence of SMEs, the Spanish investments by large companies is predominant in the tourism sector, which has become the main source of revenues. There is also underway or under consideration industrial projects.

The government wants Guindos visit will help improve relations between Spain and Cuba, which have waxed and waned in recent times. The recent visit of Secretary of State for Trade, Jaime García Legaz, with a group of businessmen, is considered a positive step, but the trip by Foreign Minister Garcia Margallo, has not met expectations.
