ATHENS. Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, attributed the failure of negotiations with creditors in Brussels to “political expediency” rather than mere disagreement on the figures.
“The insistence of institutions in new cuts in pensions after five years of plunder through memos (rescue programs) can only be explained by political expediency” Tsipras told the newspaper Efymerida Syntaktón ton.
Tsipras spoke after the interruption last night in Brussels of negotiations between Greece and institutions (European Commission, European Central Bank, International Monetary Fund).
Following the failure to reach an agreement yesterday, negotiations go to a higher plane and are in the hands of finance ministers of the eurozone, which will meet on Thursday in Luxembourg or even heads of government.
EU sources said the negotiations were interrupted by persisting “a significant gap between the plans of the Greek authorities and the public demands” of the three institutions on fiscal measures.
Greek Deputy Minister Dragasakis Yanis, who participated in the negotiations held at the end of these that Greece had submitted proposals to creditors which were used to fully meet the demands of creditors and fiscal primary surplus, but they insisted other cuts.
“The proposals paved the way for a final agreement” on financial, budgetary and growth material, and “covering one hundred percent gap, as demanded by the representatives of the institutions “said Dragasakis.
The Deputy Prime Minister stressed that the institutions insisted that the financial dispute should cover” exclusively “with pension cuts in up to 1% of gross domestic product and the increase in the volume of VAT collection of the same percentage.
Tsipras stressed that the government will wait “patiently until the institutions realism join.”
However, he stressed that if someone perceives ” as a weakness “his” sincere desire for a solution and steps “that have” given to overcome differences with partners, must take into account “not only bring” the historical burden of the struggle. “
“We carry on our shoulders the dignity of a people and hope to the peoples of Europe. It is too heavy a burden to ignore. It is not a matter of ideological obsession. It is a question of democracy, “he said.
” We have the right to bury European democracy in the place he was born, “he said.
