Inditex, among the 100 most highly capitalized companies in the world – The Economist

It is the only European company in its sector included in the list of PWC. The US remains the country with the largest number of most capitalized companies

Inditex has entered for the first time in the ranking of the 100 largest companies in the world by level of market capitalization, it ranks 77 with a capitalization of 100,000 million dollars, a figure that has quadrupled since 2009.

Property Amancio Ortega, is the only European company in its sector included in the list of the 100 largest companies by market capitalization, according to the study ‘The 100 largest listed companies in the world, “prepared by PWC.

The report shows that the number of FMCG companies among the 100 largest companies in the world by market capitalization it has tripled between 2009 and 2015, and stresses that the market capitalization of companies in the consumer goods sector has grown by 163% over the past five years to 1.5 trillion dollars, an increase second only to the technology industry.

A total of ten companies in the consumer goods sector are among the 100 largest companies in the world, compared to the three he had in 2009. Moreover , companies in this sector were the most increased their contributions (16%) over the last year. This figure excludes the Asian e-commerce giant Alibaba, which was listed on the Stock Exchange in 2014.

Of the companies in the consumer goods industry included in the ranking, the US remains the country with the highest number of companies, highlighting Walmart, Walt Disney, Amazon, Home Depot, Comcast, CVS, McDonald’s and Walgreens. According to the analysis, the increase in the number of companies in the sector is explained mainly by consumption growth and the middle class, especially in emerging economies.
