The Stock reopen Greece after five weeks of being closed for capital controls introduced in the country, but local investors will face restrictions to prevent capital flight abroad.
The Athens Stock Exchange was not operating since 29 June, when the government closed the banks and imposed limits on withdrawal and transfers abroad to avoid deposit runs.
The Finance Ministry paved the way for the opening of the market by issuing a decree establishing new standards for operating local investors. There will be no restrictions on foreign investors.
“After the finance minister signed the relevant decree, the council of the Athens Stock Exchange (…) decided to reopen the Athens Stock Exchange on Monday, 3 August, “she said.
