SHANGHAI (Reuters) – The chinese company Hangzhou Xiongmai Technology Co Ltd said that it will withdraw some of its products sold in the united States after security researchers determined that this manufacturer had produced parts of the equipment which suffered a massive cyber attack last Friday.
The hackers launched a complex attack on the Internet using everyday devices such as web cameras or digital recorders and cut off the access to some of the most popular sites, which led to a striking breakdown of the overall stability of the internet.
The company of electronics, which produces parts of surveillance cameras, said in a statement on its official blog that it would withdraw some of its products already sold in the US, in addition to strengthening its functions of passwords and send users a patch to the products made before April of last year.
The company, however, said that the main issue was that the users had not changed the default passwords, and added that their products were in general well protected against the violations of cyber security. In addition, he called false reports that indicated that their products were the bulk of the attacked on Friday.
The main products that Xiongmai Technology will remove will be the webcams, indicated in the statement.
