MADRID (Reuters) – The occupancy in Spanish hotels, and the prices of the rooms continued to increase in September after a summer of record high, thanks mainly to the increased influx of foreign tourists.
overnight stays in hotels, that have been held for more than two years growing, up 5 percent year-on-year in September, up by 36.6 million, due to the increase of 8 per cent of the stays of foreign visitors, that more than offset the decline of 1.7 per cent of the Spanish tourists.
In the first nine months of the year, the overnight stays have increased by 7.4 per cent compared to the first nine months of 2015.
The prices of the establishments went up by 5.8 per cent year-on-year, and strung as 30 months upwards. The average daily turnover by hotels per occupied room (ADR) was of 84.4 euros, a 5.6 per cent more than in September of last year.
For its part, the average revenue daily per available room (RevPAR), conditioned by the occupation, amounted to 63,8 euros, which represents an increase of 11.3 percent year-on-year.
In September, we covered the 67.5 per cent of the places offered, with an annual increase of 3.2 per cent, although the average stay declined by 2.2 percent compared to September of 2015, standing at 3.5 overnight stays by traveller.
The islands continued to be highlighted as a tourist destination, reaching the highest occupancy rate by bedplaces Balearic islands (85,9%), and Canarias (79.7 percent).
Exceltur, employers ‘ association of the major tourist companies in Spain, warned last week that the diversion of tourists to other mediterranean destinations less stable towards Spain was creating a bubble in the beaches and national has reached its limits in some coastal areas.
