Madrid, Mar 17 (EFE) .- The labor costs of firms per worker per month reached 2638.8 euros in the fourth quarter of last year, representing a fall of 0.5% over the same period of 2013, a decline that adds to experienced also in the previous three quarters.

According to the Quarterly Labour Cost Survey (LCI) released today by the National Statistics Institute (INE) of that spending, wage costs (including base salary, allowances, overtime payments and arrears, all measured in gross terms) stood at 1991.84 euros per worker and month, 0.2% lower than last year.

The wage cost is the component that most influences the total cost incurred by an employer per worker per month.

The INE stresses that if wage costs are excluded from the variable factors (extra pay and arrears, which fell by 1.3%), gross wages have increased 0.1%.

As for the other costs nonwage, the decline was 1.5% (646.96 euros), because the non-wage payments 18.3% (77.87 euros) were cut by lower severance or end of contract compensatory payments, small tools, work clothes or recruitment.

This decline in non-wage payments offset the 1.8% increase experienced by the obligatory social security contributions (584.52 euros) and a rise of 18.3% of grants and bonuses (15.42 euros).

The labor cost per hour fell 1.2%, higher than the cost descent worker, who was due to an increase in the number of actual hours of work.

By contrast, the largest declines were recorded in arts, entertainment and recreation activities (3%), extractive industries (2.4%) and financial and insurance activities (2%).

By region, the labor cost in the Basque Country and Madrid exceeded over 400 euros average national, and Extremadura and the Canary Islands that cost was below average in the same amount.

In response to annual cost growth, Cantabria, Baleares and Navarra presented the highest growth rates, while Castilla y León, Catalonia and Valencia accounted for the largest decreases.

During the fourth quarter of 2014 the average weekly working hours under was 34.3 hours (considering together the entire time and partial), from which lost about 4.6 hours on average per week, mostly for holidays.

The wage gap between full- and part-time was 5.43 euros per hour (16.11 euros / hour to complete and 10.68 euros / hour for partial).
