BRUSSELS (Notimex) .- Unemployment in the European Union (EU) remained unchanged in April at 9.7 percent, while in the euro area fell a tenth, to 11.1 percent, the EU statistics agency reported Friday Eurostat.
Compared to a year earlier, the unemployment level decreased six tenths both Veintiocho and monetary union.
In particular, 23.504 million Europeans lacked a work in April, of which 17,846 were in the euro countries.
The highest levels of unemployment remain Greece (25.4 percent in February, the most recent figure) and Spain (22.7 percent), while the lowest was recorded in Germany (4.7 percent).
On an annual basis, unemployment fell in 22 European countries and increased in the other six, including in France, where he spent 10.1 in April 2014 to 10.5 percent in the same month in 2015.
The main decline was observed in Spain, of 2.2 percentage points.
For its part Youth unemployment stood at 20.7 percent in the whole EU and 22.3 percent in the euro area in April, be two and three tenths less than the previous month.
Rates higher unemployment among young people were registered in Greece (50.1 percent in February), Spain (49.6 percent), Croatia (45.5 percent in the first quarter) and Italy (40.9 percent).
The lowest were in Germany (7.2 percent), Austria and Denmark (10.1 per cent in both cases)
