The EC sees this meeting an important opportunity to create the conditions allowing the Eurogroup adopt that Athens must meet to close the fifth final agreement on reforms and macroeconomic and financial conditions and final revision of second bailout for Greece, Efe.
The Commission indicated that a priori did not expect a final decision last night, although both politicians focus on the outstanding issues to try to overcome differences and to facilitate a compromise that lead to an agreement.
Before a dinner with Tsipras, Juncker met with Eurogroup chairman Jeroen Dijsselbloem, who lowered expectations appointment yesterday by stating that “it is hard work” to reach the final agreement.
The Greek prime minister, meanwhile, held a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande, in which they agreed, according to government sources in Athens on need to establish “lower primary surplus” and achieve an “immediate solution” to the negotiations.
On the table are two proposals: one by the Greek Government and other international creditors, the EC, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the European Central Bank (ECB).
Hollande estimated: “We want Greece remains in the eurozone”. “We must move towards a solution”, in the interest of all, the French president said.
