The protest was held outside the building of the Greek parliament with the slogan “Against Austerity” and protesters chanted songs with phrases like “Stop privatization” or a departure from the European Union and a “break with their creditors.”
The protest was attended by government supporters of the prime minister, Alexis Tsipras, the union of state employees and numerous organizations of the extra-parliamentary left. There were also representatives of the populist right-wing party Independent Greeks (ANEL), coalition partner party Syriza of Tripras.
The demonstration came hours before the heads of state and government of the euro area held tomorrow an extraordinary summit in Brussels, which also will participate in the European Central Bank (ECB), the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the European Commission to try to find a solution to the situation in the Hellenic country.
On June 30, Greece must make a payment of nearly 1,600 million euros to the IMF, but it certainly is able to cope.
