Spending by tourists in Spain increased by 10 percent in March – Yahoo Finance Spain

MADRID (Reuters) – Spending by tourists who visited Spain in March rose 10 percent year on year to 4.838 million euros, a survey showed on Thursday of National Statistics Institute (INE).

the British were again the biggest spenders in Spain, 20.5 percent of total expenditure, with an increase in spending of almost 27 percent over the same month last year, followed by Germany and the Nordic countries.

Canary was once again the main destination for spending, accumulating 30.7 percent, followed by Catalonia and Andalusia.

Spain last year registered a new record in tourist arrivals to receive 68.1 million foreign visitors, 4.9 percent more than in the previous year, with Catalonia and the Balearic and canary islands as a destination favorites.

Spain is the third largest tourist destination in the world behind France and the United States. The sector contributes about 11 percent of the national GDP and is one of the main generators of employment.
