MADRID (Reuters) – Spending by tourists who visited Spain in March rose 10 percent year on year to 4.838 million euros, showed on Thursday a survey by the National Statistics Institute (INE)

Canary was once again the main destination for spending, accumulating 30.7 percent, followed by Catalonia and Andalusia.
Spain registered a new record last year in the tourist arrivals to receive 68.1 million foreign visitors, 4.9 percent more than in the previous year, with Catalonia and the Balearic and canary islands as favorite destinations.
Spain is the third the world tourist destination behind France and the United States. The sector contributes about 11 percent of national GDP and is one of the main generators of employment.
