Expansion / The spokesman of the Government, Iñigo Méndez de Vigo, has announced the constitution of a company owned by Adif and SNCF-Réseau that will manage the infrastructure.
The Council of Ministers has approved this Friday to rescind the ACS and Eiffage the contract they achieved in 2003 for the construction and subsequent operation of the tunnel under the Pyrenees connecting France and Spain by AVE.
The two States are going to “rescue” this infrastructure through a joint venture owned by Adif-renfe and its French counterpart, SNCF-Réseau.
“therefore, peace of mind for all users of the trains running on this tunnel, because that will continue,” he assured the also minister of Education in the press conference after the Council of Ministers.
The termination of the contract takes place after the last September TP Ferro, the company, through the ACS and Eiffage built the tunnel and managed, would not exceed the creditors, and looked doomed to liquidation.
The banking creditor did not accept the plan that the builders raised to restructure and pay the debt of 557 million euros, which supports the tunnel.
After the cancellation of the contract with the builders, next Monday, Spain and France sign in Paris the agreement that the two States will be in charge of the infrastructure.
To this end, Adif and his counterpart in gaul, have formed a joint venture called Line Figueres Perpignan (LFP), which will take over the tunnel and its management.
