The ECB publishes first minutes of its meetings – Deutsche Welle Spanish

The European Central Bank made today (02/19/2014) public for the first time in its history the minutes of a meeting of its Board of Governors, whose contents are kept secret until now always. The published proceedings relate to the meeting of January 22, in which the board decided an unprecedented stimulus plan for the eurozone authorizing the purchase of government bonds worth 60,000 million euros per month (68,000 million). The protocol of the meeting states that “there was broad agreement” among board members that the measures taken so far to combat low inflation were inadequate and in need of bond purchase plan. “A large majority of the members supported the decision to launch a program of asset purchases,” says the paper, published in the ECB’s website. Only “some” of the 21 members present voting rejected the new plan. The ECB governing council meets in secret to prevent its deliberations and debates take effect on the fi nancial markets before a decision is made. So far, the minutes of the meetings should remain classified as confidential for 30 years. Since the bank was founded in 1998, had never yet published information sessions. (Dpa)
