MADRID (Reuters) – The Mutua Madrilena said on Friday that it has reached a 2,13 percent of the share capital of Caixabank (MC:) after investing around € 280 million in a placement of shares in the Catalan bank the day before.
“This participation puts the insurer as a major shareholder of the bank after CriteriaCaixa,” said Mutua in a statement.
Caixabank sold the Thursday the whole of its treasury shares to institutional investors is 1,322 million euros to strengthen its capital, before the disbursement provided by the opa to the Portuguese bank BPI (LS:).
The Spanish bank announced prior to the placement had interest from two institutional investors with vocation of permanence for a total amount of 380 million euros, although it had not identified any entity.
