MADRID (Reuters) – The main Spanish unions will convene mobilisations on the 15th and the 18th of December after complaining about eve not to obtain a commitment from the Government on wage increases, said Friday the General Union of Workers (UGT).
“there Will be demonstrations, factoring in the 15 and 18 of December,” he told Reuters a head of communication UGT, citing statements by the union’s general secretary, Josep Maria Alvarez.
The announcement comes a day after Alvarez and his counterpart of Comisiones Obreras, Ignacio Fernández Toxo, to meet with Government and business organizations to initiate negotiations on employment in a country that suffers a high unemployment rate despite enjoying solid economic growth.
The responsible person said that the demonstrations were in the context of what the union officials explained Thursday, after the meeting, after which anticipated a mobilization without specifying, even though ruling out a strike for the time being.
After the meeting, the unions complained that there was no concrete commitment from the Government about the increase in the minimum wage to 800 euros from 655 euros per month current nor on the repeal of the last labour reform, two of their main demands.
The last general strikes in Spain took place in 2012, when it approved a labour market reform that facilitated the dismissal coinciding with the worst economic crisis in the country in decades.
