The unemployment in the European Union falls below 10% for the first time since 2011 – Teletrece

The unemployment in the euro zone fell in October to 9.8%, below the symbolic barrier of 10%, announced this Thursday, the european statistics office, Eurostat, who reviewed the figure of September’s 10% to 9.9%.

France, the second economy of the euro zone, registered a decline of 9.9% in September to 9.7% a month later, a similar trend in that period, in most of the european countries such as Italy (from 11,7% to 11.6%) and Portugal (10.9% to 10.8%).

The figure for October for the euro area, the lowest since July 2009, is slightly less than estimated by the analysts of the agency Bloomberg (10%). The number of unemployed, Eurostat estimated that about 15.9 million europeans do not have a job.

Despite this decline, the unemployment among young people remains stable at high levels in the euro area (20.7 per cent). In Spain, the number of children under 25 years without employment increased in October by 42.9% to 43.6%, up to a total of 661.000 people.

By sex, the percentage of women without a job in the countries with the single currency fell in October to 10.1%, above the figure among men (9.5 per cent).

with Respect to the 28 countries of the European Union, the figure also fell in October to 8.3% to almost 20.5 million unemployed, its lowest level since February 2009.
