IMF rules out dialogue with Greece over debt – Azteca News

Washington DC, EUA.-The International Monetary Fund ( IMF ) denied today that have talks with the new government of Greece intended to renegotiate the debt that the country has with the multilateral organization.

“There is an agreed framework to deal with the debt in the current program. There have been no discussions with the authorities to change this framework, “the background in a brief statement issued here.

Shortly after his victory in the legislative elections, the new prime minister Alexis Tsipras said his country will not continue with the austerity programs adopted by the previous government after a bailout by the IMF and European creditors.

As part of this rescue Greece received about 270 billion dollars in two programs agreed in 2010 and most recently in 2012. In Brussels, President of the European Commission (EC), Jean-Claude Juncker, Tsipras warned the government that the outcome of their choices can not change policies across the European Union (EU).

“Yes, we can accommodate a certain amount of our policies, but we will not change everything because there was an election result that appeals to some and dislike others,” said Juncker at the European Parliament (EP). Juncker acknowledged that while you must take into account the will of the Greeks expressed at the polls, “but those who won the elections must also take into account the beliefs and way of life of others.”

Tsipras, leader of the far-left Syriza, intends to abandon the austerity program imposed their country by the troika of international lenders, CE, European Central Bank (ECB) and the IMF .

Similarly seeks to renegotiate public debt, which amounts to 175 percent of Greek gross domestic product (GDP). Juncker and Tsipras meet this day in Brussels for a first exchange of views.
