The International Monetary Fund reported that it has no “discussion” with Greece on a renegotiation of its debt to the institution, one of the three creditors who form the “troika”.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) said Wednesday that it has no “discussion” with Greece on a renegotiation of its debt to the institution, one of the three creditors who form the “troika”.
“There is a framework agreement to tackle the debt in the current program. There has been no discussion with authorities about a change in this framework,” the IMF said in a statement in response to the Athens statements proposing the financial institution an exchange of debt.
In an interview published Wednesday in Italy, Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis, said he “engaged in negotiations” with the IMF to replace Titles existing debt by more recent “market price” and whose repayment would be linked to the return of a “solid” growth in the country titles.
Since coming to power in Athens party Syriza radical left has expressed its willingness to renegotiate its debt with the European capitals and the IMF, who gave the country some 240,000 million euros (about $ 270,000) through two aid programs in 2010 and 2012.
