The German train drivers’ union announced a six-day strike starting Tuesday, the longest in the dispute over the collective bargaining agreement with management that frees the semi-German railways.
The measure will affect the transport of passengers from 02:00 hours on May 5 to 09:00 hours of May 10. Freight traffic will be affected from tomorrow afternoon.
The machinists strike is the eighth in the current dispute over the collective bargaining agreement. The GDL union rejected on Thursday the new management offer of a two-stage increase of 4.7 percent from July 1 and a single payment of 1,000 euros until 30 June. The union demands wage increases of five percent and an hour less work per week (dpa).
