SANTIAGO , May 5 (Reuters) – Chilean energy group CGE, a subsidiary of the Spanish Natural Gas, doubled its profit in the first quarter due to a decrease in financial costs and a lesser charge on its debts by inflationary effects .
CGE reported late Tuesday in the Chilean regulator a profit of 24.878 million pesos ($ 39.5 million) between January and March, representing an annual increase of 101.6 percent.
“The main positive effects that explain the improved results of CGE correspond to the variation of the unit Fomento (unit measured in Chilean pesos adjusted for inflation) on financial debts “, CGE said in its report.
The revenue and cost of sales of the Chilean subsidiary of Gas Natural remained stable in the first quarter, which generated a gross profit of 105.792 million pesos (168.2 million of dollars) in the first quarter.
Natural Gas closed last November the buying Chilean firm in a 2,550 million euros, the largest acquisition in its history abroad, with which seeks to strengthen its business in Latin America.
The gross operating profit (EBITDA) of CGE fell 8.4 percent to 90.551 million pesos, due to a drop in business gas and electricity.
CGE participates in the electricity sector both in Chile and Argentina, with about 3.5 million customers. Through its subsidiary Gasco distributes LPG to residential, commercial and industrial customers in Chile and some departments of Colombia.
In addition, supplies natural gas in four regions of Chile and Argentina in four provinces.
