German train drivers end their strike record – La Prensa Grafica

German train drivers ended yesterday the largest rail strike in history in the country announced a “pause” after six days of protests that left millions affected and huge economic damage.

The train began to move again at 9 am (7:00 GMT), but the railway company Deutsche Bahn (DB) warned that it would be hours until you return to work without delay and in compliance with the usual pattern.

The strike was the eighth and longest those called by the GDL train drivers’ union demanding wage increases and improvements agreement. It began early Tuesday in passenger transport and one day before the charge.

“The country and train customers deserve a break. And DB is now a pause for reflection to react, “said the controversial head of the GDL, Claus Weselsky, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung Sunday.

The company amounted economic damage from the protest by 10 million euros ( $ 11.2 million) per day of strike. Other experts estimate that cost at DB together about 500 million euros, excluding image damage caused by the chaos in transport and the millions of passengers stranded.
