This is the first fall in annual inflation in the euro zone since last September and its biggest decline since February last year.
 

The annual rate of inflation in the euro zone fell in February to -0.2% against rise of three-tenths of January, as confirmed by the final data it released Thursday by the EU statistical office, Eurostat.

this is the first fall in annual inflation in the euro zone since last September and its biggest decline since February last year, when prices fell by 0.3% yoy.

Meanwhile, in the whole of the European Union (EU) annual inflation in February stood at -0.2% against rising 0.3% the previous month.

According to Eurostat data, in February a total of 15 EU countries recorded negative annual rates of inflation. The largest price declines were observed in Cyprus (-2.2%), Romania (-2.1%), Bulgaria and Spain (-1% each).

Among the countries that recorded increases in the annual rate of inflation, the highest increases were for Belgium (+ 1.1%), Austria and Sweden (+ 1% each).

the price of energy recorded a decline in February year of 8.1%, compared with the drop of 5.4% the previous month. Meanwhile, food, alcohol and snuff rose 0.6%, compared with 1% in January, while services prices rose 0.9%, three tenths less than the previous month.

thus, the annual rate of inflation excluding the impact of energy stood at 0.8%, two tenths below the reference January, while excluding energy and fresh food annual inflation rate was 0, 8%, compared with 1% in January

also, leaving the impact of energy, food, alcohol and snuff out of the estimate, the inflation rate in February stood at 0.8%, compared with 1% in January.
