In Venezuela, the demographic balance is tilted very slightly to the female population exceeds that of men by a few thousand. The latest available census, in 2011, conducted by the National Statistics Institute reveals that 27 million 227 thousand 930 people, 13 thousand 678 thousand 178 are women, 128,000 men.
This proportion is reversed in ethnicity, the INE measured separately. Of the 669 thousand 470 persons belonging to the indigenous population, 337 000 126 are men and 332 000 344 are women.
The Venezuelan study more than men. According to the bulletin Gender Indicators INE, whose most recent figures are from 2013, between 15 and 64 accumulate more years of schooling than men. This advantage is most noticeable in the segment between 25 and 44 years, when the population is more active: in this age, women accumulates another year of educational preparation than men.
The difference is greatest when we review who obtained a university degree: 1 million 068 thousand 007 titles have come out with female names, while only 824,000 573 with male. The counterpart is in comparison trades in line dedicated to “housework” people: 64 000 211 men deal with housework to 3 million 071 thousand 881 women.
However, they earn less. According to INE gender indicators, there is “wage inequality persists matter” in those postulated by labor positions of any skill level.
The paradox is that more and more households are economically dependent women. The last census shows that nearly 40% of families dependent on the mother or grandmother. This is a figure that has been increasing in the last two decades when it was only 24%, all according to INE.
The Venezuelan is sexually precocious. It has the highest rate of teenage pregnancy in South America. The World Health Organization estimates that 19% of births in the country are mothers with less than 18 years. In 2000, it was 10%. Their first relationships are, on average, at age 15, one less than the rest of Latin America. However, most pregnant women of all ages, 58%, do not receive adequate prenatal care, according to the doctor Jaime Torres said at a conference on zika and pregnancy SOS Telemedicine for Venezuela.
The first cause of female death is, as in men and the rest of the Western world, myocardial infarctions. They are more numerous in postmenopausal women, according to the Yearbook of Mortality latest Ministry of Health.
Cancer is the second leading cause of death. The most lethal are cervical and breast. According to the Cancer Society, 20% of Venezuela dies of cancer disease. One in six of tumors in breast, that preys more with women between 45 and 65 years.
