Madrid / Mérida, 11 Aug The city bus service in June in Extremadura had a total of 903,000 travelers which represents a decrease of 0.9 percent annual rate, the second largest in the country after the fall of 3.2 percent experienced in Madrid.
According to data released today by the National Statistics Institute (INE), the number of passengers increased in this period in five regions with the Basque Country , with 6.3%; Canaries, with 5.6%; Galicia, with 2.4% and Valencia, with 0.8%, leading the way.
On the contrary, the largest decreases were recorded in Madrid (3.2%), Extremadura (0 , 9%) and Castilla y Leon and Aragon, both with falls of 0.7%.
The use of long-distance railway, which includes the AVE, in June recorded an increase of 7.5 % from the same month of 2013, while the aircraft rose 4.1%,
In absolute figures, the plane again and slightly exceed the train movement within Spain with 2.7 millions of passengers compared to 2.5 million in the train.
In total, more than 378.6 million passengers used public transport in June, 1.8% less than in the same month 2013.
The urban transport decreased by 0.7% and suburban, 3.8%, with the data long distance train and plane as the main positive behaviors.
In urban transport, use the subway fell 1.1% while bus transport decreased by 0.4%.
Using the Madrid Metro decreased (2.2% ), Valencia (0.3%) and Barcelona (0.1%) while Sevilla recorded the highest increase at 1.9%.
