TOKYO – President and CEO of Takata , Shigehisa Takada, will assume the functions of the Swiss executive until further notice, according to the company said in a statement.
Stocker still a member of the board of the company based in Tokyo.
The company also announced that, due to the crisis triggered by the deficiencies found in the airbag of the company over the next four months the salary of President Takada will be cut by 50 percent, while Stocker and the rest board receive respectively 30 and 20 percent less.
The fault, located in the airbag inflator (which can be opened with excessive force and projecting metal fragments at the occupants ), has affected more than 20 million cars worldwide who have been called to the shop to replace them this defective part.
According Takata, failure, believed could have led to five deaths different countries, occurs only under conditions of high humidity, and the United States (where there are more than 10 million cars affected) the company has proceeded to call for review to vehicles which are in areas with these conditions.
However, the National Administration for Highway Safety (NHTSA) US doubt this version and demanded the Japanese firm to expand its recall work.
In early December, Takata refused to expand the recall, so the NHTSA warned it could impose Company fined $ 7,000 per vehicle affected by the recall, which would mean millions of dollars for the Japanese manufacturer.
